Xiaomi Corp.’s launch event for its first-ever electric car was by all accounts a success, with the company boasting a flood of orders for the highly-anticipated SU7.

However, analysts say what happens next with deliveries and real-world performance will be the true test for the Chinese smartphone maker.

Touting the SU7 as a match for Tesla Inc.’s Model 3 and the electric Porsche Taycan in its top-performance version, CEO Lei Jun on Thursday kicked off sales of Xiaomi’s first electric vehicle (EV) with aggressive pricing.
