    Chinese divers have continued to assert their dominance at the ongoing World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka, Japan, bagging seven gold medals since the start of the tournament Friday. On Monday, Chang Yani and Chen Yiwen grabbed the women’s three-meter synchronized gold, while Lian Junjie and Yang Hao took first place in the men’s 10-meter synchronized podium. The day before, teen diving stars Quan Hongchan and Chen Yuxi took home the championship in the women’s synchronized 10-meter platform, while 29-year-old Peng Jianfeng won the gold medal in the men’s one-meter springboard final with 440.45 points

    An exhibition featuring more than 100 artifacts related to Dunhuang — a transport hub on the ancient trade route known as the Silk Road — has opened in Hangzhou, East China’s Zhejiang province. Titled Convergence of Civilizations: Dunhuang on the Silk Road, the event showcases items dating back to ancient times, such as a stone pagoda from the Northern Liang Dynasty (398-439/460) and a sancai-glazed pottery figure from the Tang Dynasty (618-907). The exhibition runs through Aug. 22

    Gallery: European Literary Giant Dies
    Milan Kundera, a Czech-born novelist best known for his work ‘The Unbearable Lightness of Being,’ died in Paris on Tuesday at the age of 94. His death was due to illness, according to media reports. A lecturer on world literature by profession, Kundera’s criticism of the Czechoslovakian government led to his ostracization in his home country in the late 1960s. After his emigration to France in 1975, Kundera wrote some of his most important works, including ‘Lightness,’ which was adapted into a 1988 film starring Daniel Day Lewis and Juliette Binoche. The author was nominated several times for the Nobel Prize in Literature

    A landslide struck a highway construction site in Yichang, Hubei province on Saturday, trapping 14 people. As of Sunday morning, rescuers had freed seven from the rubble, including one who died of injuries. The landslide covered the area in mud and trees, burying machinery and vehicles.     A new exhibition at the Nanyue King Museum in Guangzhou features artifacts recovered from the wreck of a sunken ship from the Song Dynasty (960–1279). The exhibition, which runs until Oct. 8, showcases more than 400 artifacts, including porcelain and jewelry. The 25-meter-long, 3,800-ton wreck of the Nanhai One was discovered in 1987 off the coast of Yangjiang, South China’s Guangdong province. The ship, which was raised in 2007, has since been preserved at the Maritime Silk Road Museum of Guangdong. Recently, researchers confirmed that artifacts found at the site were produced in the Nanhai kilns, meaning the ship had departed from the provincial capital of Guangzhou
