A new nuclear reactor has been connected to the grid in southern China, as the country rapidly expands its nuclear power fleet to decarbonize its economy.

The Hualong One reactor, with an installed capacity of 1.16 gigawatts (GW), is part of a nuclear plant run by state-owned China General Nuclear Power Group (CGN) in the coastal city of Fangchenggang in South China’s Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region.
